Minnesota-Approved Online Classroom for the Instruction Permit
The Distance Learning Permit Class is a convenient, structured, and state-approved online classroom designed to help students complete the required 30 hours of driver education from home while still receiving interactive, instructor-led instruction.
This course prepares students to receive their Blue Card, which authorizes them to take the Minnesota state written knowledge test (“permit test”).
What Is the Distance Learning Permit Class?
This is a live online driver education class, conducted via Zoom or another interactive platform, where students receive all required classroom hours without attending in-person. The class is fully compliant with Minnesota Driver & Vehicle Services (DVS) standards for online synchronous instruction.
Students participate in real-time lessons with a licensed instructor, including:

Attendance & Completion Rules (Minnesota DVS Requirements)
To receive credit:

No leaving early or arriving late

Participation in quizzes is mandatory
If a student misses a session, they must schedule a make-up session to complete the required hours.
After the Permit Class — What Happens Next?

Student receives Blue Card

Student takes the knowledge test at a Minnesota exam station

Student may begin Behind-the-Wheel lessons with Life Star
